Mental health and the outdoors

Mental health is one of the largest topics in society today and it seems that it isn't going anywhere soon. Many people are impacted by mental health in different ways, they either battle it themselves or know someone who struggles. There is still somewhat of a stigma about mental health and that because it is uncomfortable to talk about which is understandable. Even though it's hard to talk about I think it is good to talk to those who you can positively impact and try and help them to the best of your ability. One thing I always recommend to someone who may be struggling is getting outdoors. Getting outdoors can be huge for mental health it can be a time to reflect, not worry, and get away and disconnect from phones, internet and everything for a bit. I love to see those who struggle be able to get out and find new ways to enjoy the outdoors.

  1. Some of the issues that come along with mental illness and struggles are lack of motivation, and fear of doing something new or different than just trying to get by. I agree that the outdoors is a fantastic way to combat some of the problems people are facing, and there is much to be gained by going outside and experiencing nature. Unfortunately, it's not always as easy as asking or telling someone to get up and go out there to do it. Hopefully we all are able to push ourselves to new experiences and even find our own escape, whether that be to the outdoors or anywhere else we enjoy.

  2. Great blog Braden, I wrote something similar in my blog a couple of days ago about the importance of a mind clearing walk. Walking outside in the fresh air with a view allows your mind to wonder more in a peaceful environment like that. Getting outside can help someones mental health like you mentioned it is a different change of scenery. Talking walks like these are good for your physical health as well especially if you make it a habit.
